Mark McGhee revealed he was spat at by his own fans after Raith Rovers sent Aberdeen crashing out of the Scottish Cup, reports the Scottish Sun. McGhee said: "Walking from the dugout to the tunnel was the most humiliating experience of my life. I was spat on by some fans while others threw their scarves at me.
"I took my time walking to the tunnel because this is the worst managerial result of my career.
"Usually I can walk away with my head held high but I couldn't do that tonight.
"But listen, I don't want any inquest or post-mortem into this about who did what.
"They were angry and they were entitled to be. I'm not innocent in what happened after the game. The players deserved it and I deserved it.
"I had the chance to have my say and get the players up for it, maybe I didn't do that.
"I told the players they set me up for what happened.
"I'm starting to learn we can't trust them. We need to stop being fooled when we get good results, like drawing 4-4 with Celtic."
