New Watford boss Malky Mackay is confident of signing Aberdeen skipper Scott Severin next week. The 30-year-old is out of contract at Pittodrie and is available on a free transfer.

Mackay told BBC Scotland: "It's something we hope to get done very, very soon.

"I went up and had a look at him myself and we had scouts watching him for the last six months or so.

"I've spoken to a lot of people up in Scotland about him and I've met him, and he's certainly someone who has impressed me in terms of his character."
