Aberdeen boss Calderwood set to dump Langfield

Jamie Langfield may have played his last game for Aberdeen.

Langfield, who gets married today, confronted Calderwood in Majorca after meeting the Pittodrie manager during his stag party. The Scotsman says it is understood angry words were exchanged between the pair over the player's proposed move to Rangers, which fell through last month.

It was the third time Langfield had clashed with Calderwood in a breach of club discipline, and the 26-year-old's erratic behaviour has now cost him the No 1 jersey at Pittodrie. The Dons announced on their official website last night that the goalkeeper had not been placed on the transfer list but "his future at the club does look in doubt".

"Jamie is still an Aberdeen player," the club said, "as he has a year of his contract to run and he will report back with the rest of the players for pre-season training, before travelling on the pre-season tour to Egypt."

Calderwood, though, is seething at the damage caused to his club's reputation and will now listen to offers for the player. "Langfield breached club discipline and I dealt with it," said the manager, who has a holiday home in Majorca.

"It was the third time that I had good reason to be disappointed with his behaviour. None of us are angels, but, when you are a professional player, you have to behave professionally and maintain certain standards. But he let himself and the club down. Langfield could not even remember a lot of what happened in these incidents. I had to tell him what he'd done and said."

Calderwood added: "He stepped over the line once too often, forcing action to be taken against him. He has suffered the consequences, but it is his family that I feel sorry for. He still has a year remaining on his contract so he could be here for that length of time.

"Jamie has been stripped of his number one shirt. He is not on the transfer list, but, if someone comes in for him, we won't be too hard to deal with."
