Aberdeen boss Calderwood brings back Young

Aberdeen boss Jimmy Calderwood has handed Derek Young a shock return to Pittodrie.

It was the then Dunfermline Athletic manager who took him and his brother, Darren, to East End Park after they rejected reduced terms to their contracts at Pittodrie in May 2003. Now Derek has been reunited with Calderwood and the club he joined straight from school, following spells with St Johnstone and Partick Thistle last season.

The Dons' manager said: "It's fair to say the player was doing hand-stands when I made him the offer to come back to Aberdeen as it's a dream move for him. I brought Derek back to the club because I know what I am getting with him and he will be a valuable addition to the squad. He was great for me at Dunfermline. He is versatile, knows the club inside out and is a great character to have in the dressing room."
