Aberdeen book their spot at Hampden with win over St Mirren

Aberdeen have progressed to the Scottish Cup semi-finals thanks to a 2-1 victory over St Mirren at Pittodrie Stadium last night.

Following the 1-1 draw in Paisley on the weekend, the Dons came out firing and were ahead immediately when Christopher Maguire bundled home a Paul Hartleyflick-on in the fourth minute to give the home side the ascendency.

In a hard-fought contest, Aberdeen managed to edge their noses in front just before half-time when Scott Vernon slotted from close range after a nice build-up involving Sone Aluko and Steve Smith on the left flank.

The game was headed the way of the home side until St Mirren's Darren McGregor sent a cross into the area but unfortunately for Nikola Vujadinovic, who had just replaced Aluko, he headed into his own net with his first touch.

But the own goal was not enough for the Buddies to get back into proceedings allowing Craig Brown's men to move into the final four where they will take on Celtic at Hampden Park.
