Aberdeen attempt to ward Middlesbrough off Anderson

Aberdeen boss Jimmy Calderwood will seek new contract talks with defender Russell Anderson ahead of an anticipated offer arriving from Middlesbrough.

Calderwood insisted no official approaches have been made for his 28-year-old captain and added: "I hope things stay that way because Russell is an important player for Aberdeen.

"We return for training next week and will get down to discussing a new contract with Russell soon after that. But the chance that another club might show an interest in him is a constant worry."
