Italian goalkeeper Christian Abbiati insists he's happy with his situation at Atletico Madrid.

The former AC Milan shot-stopper has failed to dislodge Leo Franco from Atletico's first team, but says: "I am very happy to be here so far. It is true that I have played little, but I believe that when I have played I have done well.

"That for me is very important.

"I am new here, the trainer has a lot of confidence in Leo Franco, but so far I am very calm."

Abbiati added: "Leo Franco is a friend, I like to speak with him in training and not to take the competition as if we were enemies. The fact that he plays does not mean that I'm not going to speak with him. I am happy for him."
