A-LEAGUE WRAP – Week 11: Brisbane losing run continues as Mariners go top

Reigning champions Brisbane Roar’s losing streak has stretched to four matches following their 2-1 loss to last season’s runners-up Central Coast Mariners.

The Roar have fallen into a hole after a brilliant undefeated run and have now relinquished top spot to the Mariners who scored twice in the first half through Mustafa Amini and Pedj Bojic before Kofi Danning got one back late.

Elsewhere in the A-League, Gold Coast United recorded their second victory of the season with a 3-0 away result at Adelaide United who sacked coach Rini Coolen after the loss. Ben Halloran and Maceo Rigters put the Gold Coast ahead in the first half before Dylan Macallister grabbed a third in injury time to move them within one point of the second-bottom Reds.

Despite scoring first through Jeremy Brockie, Newcastle Jets were beaten 2-1 by Sydney FC who came back courtesy of goals from Bruno Cazarine and Juho Makela with sees the Sky Blues consolidate in fourth and the Jets fall to seventh.

Melbourne Heart’s strong start to the campaign continued as they defeated Perth Glory 2-1 away with Matt Thompson’s 33rd minute goal canceled out by Billy Mehmet two minutes later. Mate Dugandzic netted a late winner to give the Heart three wins in a row to remain in third as the Glory dropped to eighth.

And finally, Melbourne Victory returned to form with a 3-1 home victory over Wellington Phoenix to move to fifth. Archie Thompson scored early before ex-Victory midfielder Vince Lia put in an own goal and then Diogo Ferreira added a third in the 25th minute prior to Alex Smith’s late consolation for the Phoenix.
