Reigning A-League champions Brisbane Roar have gone from losing one game in 37 to enduring two defeats in their past two outings.
The Roar were beaten 2-0 by Sydney FC last week to end a record-breaking unbeaten streak before the Melbourne Heart got the better of the Brisbane club to inflict their first home loss in 24 matches. Jonathan Germano celebrated in style after heading home the 12th minute opener before Eli Babalj added a second prior to the half-hour mark. Mitch Nichols grabbed a late consolation goal but it wasn't enough to deny the Heart moving to third on the table as the Roar remained top but are now equal on points with last season's runners-up Central Coast Mariners.
The Mariners did the job with a 2-0 home victory over Newcastle Jets thanks to goals from Matt Simon and Rostyn Griffiths to make it four wins in a row as Wellington Phoenix's Ben Sigmund netted a late goal to help see off Perth Glory 1-0 which put the New Zealanders seventh whilst the /glory dropped to sixth.
Melbourne Victory's tough start to the season continued as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Adelaide United with Fabien Barbiero canceling out Archie Thompson's opener whilst Gold Coast United and Sydney played out a scoreless draw.
