A-League Team of the Week - January 30

Brisbane Roar's new cult hero James Meyer made his first entry into the tribalfootball.comA-League Team of the Week for January 30.

The 24-year old former Eastern Suburbs (Brisbane Premier League) player was given a chance by Roar coach Ange Postecoglou in the January 12 clash with Central Coast Mariners and he did not let him down, netting a vital goal in the 3-3 draw at Bluetongue Stadium, just three minutes after coming on in his debut.

More recently, Meyer has improved his A-League goalscoring tally, hitting the target twice in 19 minutes in the 2-0 win over Wellington Phoenix on Australia Day before gaining his first start when Massimo Murdocca was a late withdrawal prior to Saturday evening's Skilled Park clash with Melbourne Heart.

With the Roar leading 1-0, Meyer struck in the 62nd minute to eventually lead the side to a 2-1 win, giving them the Australian national league record for most matches (23) unbeaten.

To add to his impressive start to his A-League career, Meyer was selected in the January 30 Team of the Week, joining teammate Michael Thoeklitos who made some crucial saves to keep a clean sheet in the Phoenix win before getting the job done over the Heart.

Melbourne Victory striker Danny Allsopp was selected for the first time since his return to the club after scoring a fine goal in Wednesday's 3-0 win over North Queensland Fury and then backing that up with two superb efforts in yesterday's 2-0 triumph over Gold Coast United at AAMI Park.
