Robbie Kruse is now a tearaway leader in the chase for this season’s A-League Golden Boot.
The 21-year old striker helped himself to a double as the Melbourne Victory recorded a comfortable 3-1 win in the second Melbourne derby with rivals the Heart on Saturday night.
Kruse’s first goal was a brilliant glancing flick-on from close range from an Archie Thompson cross in the 12th minute before he pounced on an error from Heart defender Matt Thompson and finished neatly with his left foot. That goal came just prior to the half-hour mark to set up the win after Gerald Sibon equalized five minutes after the opener.
Kruse now has 10 goals from 13 starts and is the in-form striker of the A-League. His performance allowed him to grab his fourth selection in tribalfootball.com’s Team of the Week, following on from last week’s inclusion after his brace in the 3-3 draw with former club Brisbane Roar.
The star striker was joined in the December 12 weekly team by teammates Surat Sukha and Adrian Leijer. Sukha did a wonderful job at right-back, quelling Heart winger Rutger Worm and providing plenty down the flanks whilst Leijer was a rock in the heart of defence and provided the Victory’s third goal with a faint touch under extreme pressure from Wayne Srhoj.
