A-League preview 2010/11: Adelaide United

Adelaide United will be using season 2010/11 as a time of redemption after their worst-ever performance in the A-League last term.

The Reds wound up on the bottom of the table after a season which saw them have easily the worst goalscoring record (24 goals in 27 matches) in the league and just a year after playing off in the Grand Final.

Their defence was solid, conceding the fourth least amount of goals but it was up the other end where Aurelio Vidmar's men floundered.

Now they have a new coach in Dutchman Rini Coolen and some new key players so it is time for Adelaide to return to the top half of the table.

However, I don't think that will be achieved this season as they rely far too heavily on attacking midfielder and captain Travis Dodd and young gun Mathew Leckie to score their goals.

The inclusion of Sergio van Dijk is enormous and if he can continue where he left off with the Brisbane Roar then things may be different but I cannot see the Reds playing off in the finals although they will be there knocking on the door.
