Move over Sky Sports and BT, Amazon have held talks with the Premier League over their UK TV rights ahead of next month's auction.
The Telegraph has revealed that the world's biggest internet company, worth £100bn, has been consulting with experts about the operational intricacies needed to televise one of the world's most popular sports leagues.
The American company have refused to comment on the matter, but it is reported that they are seriously exploring the option of bidding for the Premier League rights between 2019 and 2022.
Premier League clubs will be crossing their fingers in the hope Amazon's interest will spark a bidding war and considerably increase the £5.14 billion they received from the last TV rights auction.
There are some concerns Amazon may not take the rights on completely. Despite their ambition to establish themselves as a sports provider, the online giant has taken a frugal approach when negotiating with other sporting codes.
Just last year, Amazon secured the UK rights to US Open and the ATP World Tour tennis in five year deals worth a combined £80 million, which is a minuscule amount compared to their turnover.
