Arsenal legend Wright: Neutrals like Man City due to English signings

Arsenal legend Ian Wright says Manchester City have pulled off a marketing coup by buying English.

In his column for The Sun, Wright wrote: "It is only natural that when a team has lots of money, there is a certain amount of resentment from other fans. Chelsea is the prime example while you could also say the same for Blackburn, when Jack Walker's cash secured them the title.

"Yet, even though City's millions are coming from the Middle East, the number of English players in the team has helped their public persona.

"People would have more than an issue if Roberto Mancini's team was full of Spaniards and Italians. But because there is a real home-grown flavour at Eastlands, the public are more forgiving."

am i missing something? since when has daniel sturridge been playing regularly for england? or chelsea, for that matter.

and how are milner and barry "fringe" players?

hey, but let's not allow the truth to get in the way of a blinkered opinion, eh zola jnr

Zola - Hart, Richards, Barry, Milner, Johnson and Lescott have started pretty much every game they've been available for so far this season. Way off the mark, and ironically it was City who produced Sturridge before Chelsea signed him via the tribunal.

Is this because SWP plays there, or have they chucked him a few quid too?
