Arsenal chief Gazidis has dig at Chelsea, Man City mega spending
Arsenal chief Ivan Gazidis says any success they enjoy will be more meaningful than what Roman Abramovich's millions have bought Chelsea.
With Chelsea visiting The Emirates today and a Carling Cup visit to Manchester City on Wednesday, Gazidis has taken the opportunity to remind the two clubs of the chasm in footballing philosophies which separates them.
"Success that is built is more significant, more meaningful and ultimately more important than success that’s bought," Gazidis told the Mail on Sunday. "That’s what we are trying to achieve at Arsenal.
"It is not easy, it’s difficult and it’s very competitive out there — but we’re trying to build something: players who have a connection with the club and the fans, who have been together as a group and grown up as a group.
"And when success comes, when that trophy comes and when that victory comes, it will mean something to our fans and something very special to that group of players."
