Arsenal’s Wenger eyes upcoming returns for van Persie, Bendtner

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has put tentative dates on the return of key strikers Robin van Persie and Nicklas Bendtner.

In the case of Bendtner, he may return to action in the very near future after recovering from a groin injury he sustained in October.

"Nicklas Bendtner should be back for the Villa game (on Wednesday week)," said Wenger. "He should be available from next week onwards. Maybe not completely ready for Stoke (in FA Cup fourth round on Sunday) but after that he should be able to be in the squad."

The news on van Persie is not as positive as he is expected to be out for another three months as he continues his rehabilitation from a serious ankle injury he suffered whilst on international duty for Holland in November.

“He has come back (to the training ground) and is doing as well as you can at that stage," Wenger told arsenal.com.

"He is out of his boot and walks normally but he thinks he will be playing mid-April."

Arsene Wenger may sound a little too optimistic over
van Persie coming back. By the time he is due to be
fully fit again, I believe the campaign is also coming
to its last stages. It is a dilemma for AW, to buy or
hold on. It is better not to take chances when we are
doing well now and then scupper the golden chance
to overtake the top two and go on until the end of the
season! Buying or from loaning a good striker should
strengthen Arsenal's credentials to win the Premiership.
