Juan Agudelo is a chance to make his first MLS start for New York Red Bulls when they meet San Jose Earthquakes in the play-offs this weekend.

The 17-year old Colombian-born striker has less than 20 minutes MLS experience but could be brought in by Red Bulls coach Hans Backe to partner Juan Pablo Angel in attack in the absence of Thierry Henry and Salou Ibrahim who are both injured.

Backe did not say whether or not Agudelo would start but did have kinds words to say about the teenager which indicated that he may be thrown in at the deep end.

“He’s a very lively striker,” Backe said Thursday. “He can run for 90 minutes.”

Whilst Agudelo wasn’t getting too carried away with the possibility of making his full debut in a finals match, he was putting himself in the right mind frame.

“I’m willing to do the dirty work,” said Agudelo. “I’m anxious to … see what I can do at the next level.”
