Agent admits Birmingham, West Brom joining Wigan in McArthur battle

The agent of Hamilton midfielder James McArthur admits the race is heating up for the youngster.

The Accies are seeking £750,000 for McArthur.

Willie McKay, the player’s agent, admitted to The Herald: “I believe that Birmingham have been in contact with Hamilton and that there are up to eight clubs interested in James’ signature. That is understandable given the consistency of James’ form this season.

“Obviously Hamilton are in a position where the player has only one more year left on his deal and they have a valuation of the player but they also want what is best for James. There is also interest registered from Wigan and West Bromwich Albion and a couple of other clubs down south.”

Rangers’ interest has been long-standing but whether their financial situation allows them to compete with the interested parties in England is another matter.

“Rangers will have to sell before they bring players in, but they have asked Hamilton to continue to keep them abreast of James’ position,” McKay admitted.
