Adelaide United set for first hit out in front of new coach
Adelaide United will have their first pre-season match in front of new coach Rini Coolen tonight.
The Reds take on the Perth Glory at Hindmarsh Stadium which will be the first match day duties the Dutchman will take on.
Coolen said it was not an ideal situation heading into the match with a few unavailable players but said the job would go on as normal.
“It’s not easy. Normally two weeks before the first game you would prefer to play this game with the squad that you run out with in Round 1, but it’s not the way it is so it’s a bit of a problem, but we need to find out if we can get a good squad together for the match against Jets,” Coolen said.
“In at least the last two trial games leading up to the season, you want to play the players that you will play in your first game, but that’s not possible and unfortunately that’s the way it is. It’s not easy, but we have to be ready for the first game.”
Those unavailable players are veteran goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic (knee injury), young stopper Mark Birighitti, midfielder Mathew Leckie (both Australian U20 duties), and Francesco Monterosso who is ill. Takumi Takahashi, a goalkeeper for Super League side Western Strikers, will take the keeping duties.
