Adelaide United defender Iain Fyfe believes the club can turnaround the disappointment of being runners-up last season.

Adelaide United defender Iain Fyfe believes the club can turnaround the disappointment of being runners-up last season.

Fyfe has returned to his home town of Adelaide after a stint with Sydney FC and said he is looking forward to being a defensive leader as the Reds strive for A-League success.

"I am certainly looking forward to the responsibility," said Fyfe.

"Adelaide's defence was good in the Asian Champions League and A-League so there's a bit to live up to.

"You have three pretty experienced guys who left - but younger guys who have come in, stood up to the plate and performed pretty well. I am sure they will go on with it this year.

"I am sure the expectations will be pretty high.

"We can turn any disappointment into a positive, go one step further and win a trophy."
