Adelaide United’s Marrone rejects North Queensland contract
Adelaide United defender/midfielder Michael Marrone will reportedly reject his contract with North Queensland Fury and may still remain in South Australia.
The 23-year old signed a deal to join the Fury late last season and was set to saddle up for the Townsville-based club in 2010/11 but the status of the club changed dramatically when it was taken over by Football Federation Australia recently.
That transfer of ownership effectively made Marrone’s contract void and he had the chance to not take it up if he decided he wanted to remain with the Reds.
Marrone’s form in the latter stages of the domestic season and so far in the Asian Champions League has been to notch and it was believed that Adelaide were loathe to lose him but they now have the chance to re-sign him, although there is talk that rival A-League clubs are keen to swoop for his services.
