Adelaide United’s Boogaard set to miss three months
Adelaide United defender Nigel Boogaard is set to miss the next three months after seriously injuring his ankle.
The 23-year old was injured in a training mishap which looks likely to sideline him until November in what is a major blow for the Reds.
“It is not positive for us because three weeks ago we started trying to play the way we prefer to, and he (Boogaard) is one of the important players in our back four,” Reds head coach Rini Coolen said.
“They’re things that can happen at training, it was an unlucky moment but that’s football sometimes and unfortunately it is a problem we have to deal with. It’s disappointing but we have to accept it.”
Boogaard, who turns 24 on Saturday, was all set to take on former Central Coast Mariners at Bluetongue Stadium on Sunday before the injury occurred.
