Adelaide’s Barbiero receives one-match ban
Adelaide United midfielder Fabian Barbiero has received a one-match ban for his ‘professional’ foul on Friday night.
Barbiero lost control of the ball in midfield to Sydney FC’s Mark Bridge in the 8th minute before denying the striker a clear goalscoring opportunity by pulling him down as the last defender.
The Match Review Panel (MRP) comprising of Barry Such (Chair), Alan Davidson and Simon Micallef found the following:
- Red Card issued to Fabian Barbiero (Adelaide United): The MRP determined the mandatory one (1) match suspension should apply for his R5 Red Card "denying the opposing team a clear goal-scoring opportunity" challenge on Mark Bridge (Sydney FC) in the 8th minute. This is the mandatory sanction for this offence under the Hyundai A-League Disciplinary Regulations.
Barbiero will now be forced to miss the Reds’ Grand Final rematch against Melbourne Victory at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night.
