Manchester City manager Mark Hughes has confirmed that striker Emmanuel Adebayor will start in the Carling Cup quarter-final on Wednesday night.

The Eastlands outfit take on Adebayor’s former club Arsenal at the City of Manchester Stadium and despite being involved in two controversial incidents the last time the sides met, the Togo international will definitely play according to Hughes.

"There's no feeling Ade won't play as a consequence of what happened last time,” the Welshman said.

"In fact, he's more likely to play because he had such a huge impact on that match.

"I think he's made a statement in that regard. It was an emotional time and it has been well documented. I don't think it will happen again.”

Hughes of course speaks of the incident where Adebayor stamped on the face of ex-teammate Robin van Persie before inciting the Arsenal fans when he scored, which saw him receive a three-match ban.
