AC Milan legend Maldini: Florentino wanted me for Real Madrid

AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini admits Real Madrid tried to sign him during his career.

Milan are in Madrid tonight for their Champions League clash with Real.

Maldini said: “Once in 2002, we played in a knock-out round and Florentino said that he wanted me at Madrid.

“Then we won the Champions League and it was impossible.”

Maldini was then asked to reveal the best player he ever came up against.

“Maradona was the greatest,” he said. “And Ronaldo in his first year in Italy.

“And Zidane was also a delight. He left for Spain.

“This is what Madrid are still missing, a Zidane.”
