A-League Round 4 – Sydney FC v Central Coast Mariners

The reigning champs have kicked off their title defence in a less than positive fashion which has seen them slump to second bottom place on the table.

The reigning champs have kicked off their title defence in a less than positive fashion which has seen them slump to second bottom place on the table.

Last weekend’s 1-0 loss to Brisbane Roar was a toothless effort as coach Vitezslav Lavicka has to deal with a second rate attack in the absence of Alex Brosque and Mark Bridge.

Sydney regain Bridge this weekend which is a major bonus but his return is cancelled out by the injury to captain Terry McFlynn who has been vital in midfield.

The Mariners may welcome Argentinean signing Patricio Perez this Saturday who will add some pace and creativity to a one-pace forward line and they may this as a great time to play the Sky Blues as they will be able to attack and not worry too much about what’s happening down the other end of the pitch.

In saying that, Central Coast have only scored two goals in three games and their attacking third may not be the area in which they excel indicating a draw is highly likely.

Verdict: 0-0 draw.
