Who's the youth? Five U20s Barcelona fans must watch

While football has temporarily been taken away from us, take some time to familiarise yourself with Barcelona's brightest stars, who might start making a name for themselves when games resume...

Ansu Fati

Spanish media outlets can't help but compare Barcelona starlet Ansu Fati to Lionel Messi following the 17-year-old's stunning debut back in February.

Within a week of making his first-team debut, Fati overtook Lionel Messi and Bojan Krkic, becoming Barcelona's youngest ever goalscorer after finding the back of the net in a 2-2 draw against Osasuna. He has made 25 appearances in total this season, scoring five goals.

Fati is incredibly quick on and off the ball, and in addition to his blistering pace, he possesses nimble footwork which allows him to dribble past players in 1 v 1 situations.

Despite being 17, the Guinea-Bissau native plays with maturity and confidence, which is why he's been able to break into Barcelona's first-team set-up at such a young age.

Barca will undoubtedly be quick to wave off any interest in him from other clubs as the Spain U21 international could very well be Lionel Messi's replacement when he decides to hang up his boots.

Pedri

Ansu Fati might be stealing the show at Barcelona, but he's not the only Barca starlet putting up great displays in Spain.

Back in August, Barcelona signed Las Palmas wonderkid Pedri and loaned him back to the club for the 2019/2020 season in a bid to allow him to continue his first-team development by playing regularly in the Segunda Division.

So far this season, Pedri has proven to be an integral part of Las Palmas' midfield set-up scoring three goals and making four assists in 26 league appearances.

At the end of the season, Barcelona's management will assess Pedri's performances at Las Palmas and make a decision on whether to loan him out to a La Liga side, or include him in their first-team squad.

Great at distributing the ball and creating goalscoring opportunities, Pedri is certainly one to watch in the coming seasons.

Iliax Moriba

Touted as the next Paul Pogba because of his build and technical abilities, 17-year-old Iliax Moriba could grow into a role in Barcelona's midfield in the coming years.

The Conakry-born midfielder stands at 6'0, yet boasts incredible Pogba-esque ball control.

He's able to contribute across both ends of his pitch thanks to his defensive awareness and his creativity.

Moriba's skillset has helped him to garner a reputation as a solid midfielder with tons of potential.

He currently plies his trade for Barca's B team in the Segunda B division, but he's expected to break into the first-team in the coming years.

Riqui Puig

A member of La Masia for nearly a decade, Riqui Puig has developed into one of the most talented young midfielders within Barcelona's ranks, earning himself plaudits from the club's coaching staff and Blaugrana fans alike.

The 20-year-old is touted to become a world-class midfielder although he remains part of the B team.

Puig made his La Liga debut for Barcelona back in April 2019, in a goalless draw against Huesca. He played 67 minutes in total and was able to show the Nou Camp a sneak peak of his abilites in midfield.

Standing at 5'7, the diminutive midfielder boasts mesmerising ball control. His low centre of gravity allows him to keep the ball stuck to his feet, allowing him to make sharp turns in the middle of the park.

Puig's skillset makes him tailor-made for Barcelona's possession based style of play.

His height is a bit of a disadvantage, though. As he struggles to win physical duels in midfield because of it, however, his speed of thought always puts him one step ahead of his opponents.

Alex Collado

20-year-old Alex Collado is one of the most exciting players to come out of La Masia in recent times.

While primarily a winger, the Spaniard can be deployed as an attacking midfielder thanks to his impressive passing abilities.

Collado has only featured twice for Barcelona's first team set up, with his debut coming in a 2-0 loss against Celta Vigo back in May 2019. He'll be hoping to increase his appearance tally for the Blaugrana's main team in the near future.

He currently plies his trade for Barca's B team, where he's scored 5 goals in 24 appearances.

He's fast, strong and agile, however, his finishing isn't quite there yet, but with some more guidance Collado can turn into a real menace in front of goal.
