Departing Manchester United defender Raphael Varane is being linked with a return to formative club Lens.

Varane and United announced this week that he will be leaving United this summer after three years at Old Trafford.

Foot Mercato says Lens are studying the prospect of re-signing Varane, though the chances are currently remote given the finances involved.

Varane told GQ last year: “I will finish my career either in Madrid, Manchester, or Lens.

"It's certain that I won't join another club. But Madrid seems complicated to me, we don't usually go back there. The most likely today is that I end up in Manchester or Lens."
